The last Frank Zappa song for now, maybe the last one on this site. The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life is an alltogether good introduction into Zappa’s music, full of humor (listen to their version of Johnny Cash’ Ring Of Fire, and how that title returns in various songs), and extraordinary well performed. That band was smokin’! Anyway, I couldn’t find this version of Mr. Green Genes, sung by Ike Willis, on Youtube… so here are the magnificent Son Of Mr. Green Genes (which doesn’t qualify to be posted here on its own because the very fact that it isn’t sung, and as such is no song…), and the original version from Uncle Meat which is somewhat less powerful.

We continue the Frank Zappa theme with a song off the album Hot Rats, Willie the Pimp.
This has one of the greatest riffs I know. It gets pretty repetitive after a while, but still. The only thing I can’t really stand about this song is Captain Beefheart’s screeching. What I find most amazing is that he recorded this around the same time the Beatles made Abbey Road. Frank was way ahead of his time.

Another Frank Zappa song, off the album Joe's Garage, in this little theme that sprung up spontaneously here. Crazy lyrics, great music… one of the three categories Zappa’s music could be categorized in (the other ones being great lyrics, crazy music; and crazy lyrics, crazy music).

Frank Zappa again, Weasels Ripped My Flesh again, but it’s what’s playing in my head, over and over and over and over again today; so I guess I’d better post it. :)

100 songs reached! A good point to honor one of the most prolific musical geniuses of the 20th century, Frank Zappa. I don’t like most of his songs, but he’s written and recorded a few true classics.
