311 – The Moody Blues – Nights in White Satin

Nights in White Satin has been played to death of course, but that doesn’t take away anything from the fact that this Moody Blues song is one of the best songs ever.

I remember Joan Baez’ song from back when my parents took us on holiday to France for the first time. I was much moved by it… and couldn’t find it for some 20 years or so.
Now we walked into a flea market yesterday, and my wife spotted this LP where it’s on… so she bought it for me and I just heard it again for the first time since all these years. Still moved to tears by it…
… though I disagree with the lyrics. When people want to weep after me when I’m dead and buried, when that’s their way to grieve, I won’t tell them beforehand not to. They’re free to show their feelings any way they want.

I don’t know how they did become more over the top than Kiss, Queen and Spinal Tap combined, but somehow The Darkness succeeded in accomplishing just that in their single I Believe in a Thing Called Love.
Who thought up that intergallactic spaceship being attacked by a giant octopus and defended by long haired guys with laserbeam guitars and drumsticks?

Land of Confusion is Genesis on its peak as far as I’m concerned, with an excellent videoclip by Spitting Image. Those lyrics are as relevant as ever.
Yesterday I went to see Katzenjammer on their sold out gig in Doornroosje, Nijmegen. They did a really terrific cover!
UNOFFICIAL upload of the Official clip as those EMI and Youtube JERKS decide to block content in certain countries. Grow up people.
Excellent cover by Norse band Katzenjammer

Black Sabbath from way back when Ozzy Osborne was still somewhat remotely resembling a normal human being. I love that drumming style here, simple power hacking.
Live on trippy TV.
Live in France 1970.
Beavis & Butthead watching Iron Man (must see!).
The Bad Plus covering it into a jazzzzz version (which anticharacteristically I like a lot).

This song by Eels from their 2003 album Shootenanny is going to be played by the band I play guitar and sing lead vocals in. I like it a lot! It’s gonna be a challenge to play both guitar parts on one guitar though.
Official song on Vevo (which sucks ’cause I won’t be able to see it in Germany. VEVO SUCKS).
Live in Germany.
Live @ Jay Leno’s. Quiet, slower rendition.

This is the last installment in my series of Déjà Vu songs.
It’s just on the verge of not being a too sweet song… but I’ve known it all my life and know it by heart, so it’s got to be on here.
I won’t post the song Déjà Vu because I hate it. All that low register noodling that has to pass for a solo, and the disconnected harmonica parts, plus too many motifs… hate it, hate it, hate it.

We continue this program with the 6th song in my series of Déjà Vu songs.
Stephen Stills wrote this. I’m not sure if Neil Young is on here, as he is not present on all songs; and on his request was not filmed at Woodstock.

Here is the 5th song in my series of Déjà Vu songs.
This was the first song by Neil Young I knew. My dad used to play this a lot on cassette when I was small. A lot of good memories are connected to this song.
