Because local soccer club FC Twente became dutch champion yesterday, this song by Hot Chocolate is very fitting today. Did you know that singer Errol Brown was knighted MBE for his ’services to popular music’?
Original clip, with their address in Cologne.

Of courses when this first came out I thought it was bad, because disco obviously was.
But just listen to how well this is composed and played as compared to the current crap you hear on the radio… in fact this is an excellent song. I don’t hate it anymore.
Clip from 1977

Enough of that seventies rock shit already! Stakka Bo was around with this hit in 1993. I remember seeing this a lot on The Music Box channel, or early MTV with Ray Cokes. Brings back memories…

I had a job once at an archive where I had to do the most boring stuff: filling databases by hand (we’re talking 1995, DOS, Borland Reflex now). I could barely stand that part of the job. I remember very little of that time, but I do remember I listened a lot to The Prodigy’s Music for the Jilted Generation.
This weekend I listened a lot to it, and this is the first of the songs that stood out.
It’s pretty mindless numbing music to me, but it fitted in that time, and in my current state of mind as well.

Easily the best song by Depeche Mode, and the clip directed by Anton Corbijn is excellent too, of course. I don’t own this one, but do have a 7″ with People Are People.

This was right in the time I started to learn to play bass guitar. I thought Mark King was the best bass player in the world… now I have some more perspective, I don’t believe that anymore, but I still think he had a very personal style. And the song still rocks.

I googled some, and found out he is the director of the movie the Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, which I went to see and was also very impressed with.

The song bears a strong resemblance to Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles, and was recorded with Noel Galagher of Oasis on vocals.

There was a re-release in 1988 which I never liked as much as the original.
